Mary of Nazareth - Mother of Jesus
Mary said "Yes!" to God's invitation to become the Mother of the Messiah. Although she was a young, poor woman who lived her life in the backwaters of a land cruelly occupied and oppressed by Roman rule, she became the first among the disciples and the saints, the Theotokos, the very Mother of God. Her Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55) is the confident prayer of praise of every person struggling with the harshness of life. For Christians, Mary is the greatest woman in human history. Giving a Madonna to your mother honors her and thanks her for saying "Yes!" to becoming your mother. Presented to friends and loved ones, this gift reminds them that God loves us with both a father's and a mother's love. The maternal image of Mary comforts, reassures and supports us in good times and bad.
