Mary said "Yes!" to God's invitation to become the Mother of the Messiah. Although she was a young, poor woman who lived her life in the backwaters of a land cruelly occupied and oppressed by Roman rule, she became the first among the disciples and the saints, the Theotokos, the very Mother of God.
