The crucifix on this rosary is an approximate replica of the crucifix designed by Lello Scorzelli (1921-1997) which rests on the top of the pastoral staff used by Pope Paul VI, Pope John Paul I, Pope John Paul II, and, until recently, Pope Benedict XVI. The Scorzelli crucifix remains the model for the crucifix on the rosaries Pope Benedict XVI gives to his guests.
