This is a wonderful gift for children, ages 5 to 105, during the Christmas season, on their birthday, for their First Communion, or just because. Church communities can welcome new members with a loaf of bread and a table grace die. Those welcoming a new baby into their family can give a prayer die to the older siblings. Grandparents can comfort grandchildren spending the night by giving them a prayer die. Senior centers, hospices, retreat houses, and family restaurants can place a table grace die on each table. Parents can bring a table grace die along when they go out to eat with their children at McDonald's or Pizza Hut. A simple but profound way in which children of all ages can lead the family in prayer together before each meal at home. Your young ones will love rolling the die for the words to thank the Giver of all good gifts.
Casting lots is a scriptural way to make a choice. The eleven Apostles chose Matthias to succeed Judas Iscariot as one of the Twelve Apostles by casting lots (Acts 1:15-26).
Each side of the die offers a different table grace. The six table graces are as follows:
Bless our food, dear God we pray, and bless us, too throughout this day. Keep us safe and close to you. Keep us just in all we do. Amen.
We thank you, Lord, for generous hearts, for sun and rainy weather. We thank you, Lord, for drink and food, and that we are together. Amen.
For life and food, for love and friends, for everything Thy Goodness sends, Almighty God, we thank Thee. Amen.
Thank you for the earth so sweet. Thank you for the food we eat. Thank you for the birds that sing. Thank you, God, for everything! Amen.
God, bless this food we are about to receive. Give bread to those who hunger, and hunger for charity and justice to us who have bread. Amen.
Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty! Amen
