The Hand-carved American Madonna Statuette is a beautiful depiction of Mary with the Christ Child. This hand-carved statuette will make a most extraordinary and unique gift for a wedding or wedding anniversary, a special housewarming, a special thank you to a very generous donor, and for that special little chapel so near and dear to your heart!
Maple Wood transformed into Exquisite Sacred Art
The Hand-carved American Madonna Statuette stands 12 inches tall, 6 inches wide, and 7 inches deep. An artist in the U.S. used a weathered piece of walnut wood to carve out this simple but profound depiction of Mary and Child. The cracks in the wood and rough carving marks remind us that God works through human imperfection. This is creative and “culturally authentic” sacred art at its finest, absolutely unique and truly exquisite, a most beautiful labor of love, faith and hope!
Mary the Θεοτόκος (“God-Bearer”) – the Mother of God
The Ecumenical Council of Ephesus solemnly defined in 431 a.d. that Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the Theotokos (Θεοτόκος – Greek for “God-Bearer”), the very Mother of God. Mary is the Theotokos because she gave birth not simply to a human being, but to God as a human being. Mary was a very young woman (probably still but a teenager) when she said Fiat – “Yes!” – to God and God’s plan for her and for the human race through her. Through this simple young woman from a small rural town in a remote backwater of the Roman Empire, God has indeed – through Jesus’ birth, life, death and resurrection – “brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble” (Luke 1:52).
