The hand-carved Mother of Goodness Statuette is a beautifully detailed piece of art. Mary presents the Christ Child to the world. She is indeed the Theotokos, the “God-bearer,” the Mother of God. This statuette is a perfect gift for Mother’s Day, for the birth of a newborn child, for a wedding or wedding anniversary, and, of course, is a very meaningful Christmas or birthday gift.
The Mother of Goodness Statuette–Heirloom Quality
The Mother of Goodness Statuette stands 7.9 inches tall and is hand-carved from wood in a studio in northern Italy. This is an heirloom-quality piece which will be treasured, prominently displayed and passed on from one generation to the next.
Mary the Theotokos–She who gave birth to God
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was solemnly defined as the Theotokos (Θεοτόκος —Greek for “God-Bearer”) by the Ecumenical Council of Ephesus in 431 a.d. Mary is the Theotokos because she gave birth not simply to a human being, but to God as a human being. Mary was surely just a young woman (probably still only a teenager) when she said Fiat—“Yes!”—to God and God’s plan for her and all of humanity. With the assent and cooperation of this young woman who lived in a remote backwater of the Roman Empire, God has—in Jesus’ birth, ministry, death and resurrection—“brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble” (Luke 1:52).
