Our Saint Christina of Bolsena Plaque – also known as “Christina of Tyre” and in the Eastern Orthodox Church as “Christina the Great Martyr” – was martyred (tortured and killed by her own father!) in the 3rd century. This is a most fitting gift for a birthday, first communion, confirmation, and the feast day of Saint Christina on July 24th.

A Wall Plaque in Three Sizes

This plaque is available in three sizes: small (p84k, 2 x 1.6 inches); medium (p69m, 3.75 x 3 inches), and large (p173g, 7.9 x 6.3 inches). This solid bronze plaque has a notch on the back to allow for easy hanging on any wall in home or office. Conceived and cast in Germany by a master goldsmith of world renown, this plaque is the perfect gift for that special “Christina” in your life!

Saint Christina the Great Martyr

Born in Bolsena, an ancient town in central Italy, Christina was the daughter of a rich and powerful Roman magistrate named Urbain. By the age of 11 she was exceptionally beautiful, and many wanted to marry her. Christina’s father, however, envisioned that his daughter should become a pagan priestess. To this end he placed her in a special dwelling where he had set up many gold and silver idols, and he commanded his daughter to burn incense before them. But Christina was visited by an angel, who instructed her in the true faith. The angel called her a bride of Christ and told her about her future suffering. Christina smashed all the idols in her room and threw them out the window. She was then persecuted by her furious father who had her scourged and thrown into prison. She refused to abandon her faith and endured a number of tortures including burning, placed into a pit of snakes and, finally, shot with arrow and thrown into the lake at Bolsena with a millstone around her neck (depicted on this plaque).
