Product Description

This is our inspiring Saint Ignatius of Loyola, S.J. Plaque. St. Ignatius of Loyola (ca. 1491-1556) was the founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). This plaque is a fitting award for students and staff of Jesuit schools, universities and retreat houses. This plaque is an ideal patron saint day gift (July 31st), birthday gift, confirmation gift, and vow jubilee gift! Also a perfect “Thank You!” gift for those special donors to your Jesuit institution!

A Solid Bronze Wall Plaque

This Ignatian plaque is available only in one size:  large (p171g) – 7.9 x 6.3 inches. This solid bronze plaque hangs easily on any wall at the office or in the home. This plaque – designed and realized in Germany by a master bronzesmith – makes an ideal birthday gift, feast day gift, or confirmation gift. It is also  especially suited for anyone who enjoys Ignatius of Loyola as their namesake and for that special “Ignatius” in your life.

Companion of Jesus

The letters IHS in the top left corner of this plaque are the first three letters of the name “Jesus” in Greek: ΙΗΣ (“Jesus” in Greek: ΙΗΣΟΥΣ or Ιησους).  Adopted by St. Ignatius in 1541 in his seal as General of the Society of Jesus, this monogram became the emblem of the Society of Jesus.  In the top right corner of this plaque is a depiction of Ignatius’ mystical vision of the Blessed Mother and Child Jesus.  This vision filled him with an intense joy for several hours, but also a feeling of shame over his former ways. He was determined to change. He decided, as soon as he was well enough, to set out for Jerusalem as a humble pilgrim. On his way he stopped at a Benedictine monastery in Montserrat. He exchanged his knight’s clothes (giving them to a beggar) and took on the clothes of a poor pilgrim. Imitating the chivalric ceremony in which a gentleman prepared for knighthood, St. Ignatius laid down his sword before the altar of the Virgin of Montserrat (depicted in the bottom left corner of this plaque) and spent the night in prayer.

This solid bronze plaque honors one of the greatest spiritual teachers and theologians in the history of the Roman Catholic Church. This Ignatian plaque is indeed a most fitting gift for a birthday, confirmation, and patron saint’s feast day.
