Product Description

This is our beautiful Saint Mary Magdalene Plaque. Saint Mary Magdalene is the second most important woman in the New Testament after Mary (the mother of Jesus). She is the “Apostle to the Apostles” – the only person to be listed in all four Gospels as the first to realize and proclaim that Jesus had risen from the dead! Her feast day is July 22. This bronze plaque is indeed a wonderful  gift for a birthday, feast day, or confirmation, for that special “Magdalene” in your life!

A Bronze Wall Plaque in Three Sizes

Available in three sizes – small (p225k – 2.4 x 2 inches), medium (p146m – 4 x 3.25 inches) or large (p63g – 7.9 x 6.3 inches) – this plaque hangs with ease on any  wall at home or in the office. This solid bronze plaque was conceived and executed in Germany by a master bronze-smith. This is an especially appropriate gift for a birthday, feast day, and confirmation.

“Apostles to the Apostles” or “Woman with the Alabaster Jar”?

Saint Mary Magdalene is depicted in the central motif here holding a vessel of spices which she has brought to Jesus’ tomb on Easter morning to anoint his body.  Mary Magdalene becomes the “Apostle to the Apostles” (and the first patron saint of evangelizers everywhere!) when the Risen Christ appears to her and she then returns to the apostles to proclaim to them that “Jesus is risen!” (Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:1-11, John 20:1-2, 11-18).

But Mary Magdalene was later mistaken in history for the “woman with the alabaster jar,” an anonymous prostitute who anoints Jesus’ feet and dries them with her hair (Luke 7:36-50). This case of mistaken identity – this tradition of conflating the “Apostle to the Apostles” with an unnamed “woman of ill repute” – is depicted even  in the lower left corner of this very plaque! (For more, go to History/Story tab.) But consider this plaque as a “teaching moment” about who the real Mary Magdalene is and who she most certainly is not! This plaque will then be a most fitting gift for St. Mary Magdelene’s feast (July 22nd), for a birthday, and especially for confirmation.
