Product Description

This is our impressive Saint Norbert of Xanten Plaque. Saint Norbert of Xanten (1080-1134) founded a community of Augustinian canons at Premontre, France, which became known as the Norbertines (Premonstratensians). This bronze plaque is a most appropriate gift for a birthday, confirmation, the feast day of St. Norbert (June 6th) and, of course, for Christmas (a great “stocking stuffer”)!

A Wall Plaque in Three Sizes

This plaque comes in three sizes: small (p25k – 2 x 1.6 inches), medium (p92m – 3.75 x 3 inches), and large (p71g – 7.9 x 6.3 inches). This solid bronze plaque hangs on any wall in the office or at home with ease. This plaque – conceived and executed by a master bronze-smith in Germany – is a most fitting gift for that special “Norbert” in your life!

St. Norbert – From Lax Cleric to Reformer

St. Norbert of Xanten was, early in his clerical career, anything but a reformer! He actually had a very cushy and secure existence as a church “professional” that really required little if anything from him and rewarded him handsomely for his non-labors. His own “road to Damascus” experience (literally being knocked out of the saddle just as St. Paul of Tarsus had been!) lead him to become one of the great Reformers in Church history. He is depicted here grasping the two-beamed crozier and bishop’s mitre, since he was appointed Archbishop of Magdeburg where he continued the clerical reforms he had begun earlier at Premontre.  St. Norbert was once said – in his profound devotion to the Eucharist – to have drunk a poisonous spider in order not to desecrate the Lord’s blood. Later, the spider crawled out of his nose! (Go to the History/Story tab for more on St. Norbert and the spider.)
