Saint Rose of Lima – First Saint of the Americas
Saint Rose is depicted in this plaque holding the cross. The Chi-Rho (an abbreviation for Christ in Greek) shines down on her. She is surrounded by rose bushes and the people of Lima gathered together in veneration. Born as Isabel Flores y de Oliva in Lima, Peru, her later nickname “Rose” came from an incident when she was a baby: a servant claimed that her face transformed into a rose. She took “Rose” later as her confirmation name. This plaque is a great gift for celebrating her feast day on August 23rd, for a birthday, for a first communion, and for a confirmation.
