This is our stunning Saint Vincent de Paul Plaque. St. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) was a French priest who dedicated his life to the poor and needy. He is known as the “Great Apostle of Charity.” The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in his honor. He is the patron saint of charities, hospitals, the Societies of St. Vincent de Paul, and the Vincentian Volunteers. This plaque will make a wonderful great gift for a birthday, first communion, confirmation, Christmas (“stocking stuffer”!), and his feast day on September 27th.

Saint Vincent de Paul – Two Years a Slave
In 1605 Saint Vincent de Paul was taken captive by Barbary pirates who brought him to Tunis. There he was sold into slavery. His first master was a fisherman who quickly sold him, since Vincent was prone to sea-sickness. His second master was a herbal physician, alchemist and inventory. Vincent became fascinated by his arts and was taught how to prepare and administer his master’s herbal remedies. When his master died, St. Vincent was sold once again to a new master, a former priest and Franciscan who had converted to Islam to gain his freedom from slavery and was now living with three wives. His second wife, a Muslim by birth, after conversations with St. Vincent, became convinced that his faith was true and she admonished her husband for renouncing his Christianity. He was filled with remorse and eventually escaped back to France with Saint Vincent.
