Product Description
The Catechumen Crucifix is unique in our collection for its dramatic and powerful depiction of the suffering of Christ and as a reminder of humanity’s role in the crucifixion. Reminiscent of the Isenheim Altarpiece, the famous triptych of Matthias Gruenewald, this crucifix is a powerful evocation of the entire Passion narrative. At about 4 x 4 inches and made of solid bronze, this cross can be integrated into just about any room in your house while still complementing the decor.
A Lenten Gift Reminding Us of Pilate’s Words: Ecce Homo
With its vivid and lifelike texture, the Catechumen Crucifix especially evokes Pontius Pilate’s famous words as he presented Jesus, scourged, bound, and crowned with thorns to the crowd: “Ecce homo” (behold, the man). It is this graphic style that allows us to empathize with the suffering Christ while meditating on the role of everyday, normal people in the death of the Savior–an important meditation for us today as we struggle to honor Christ in an increasingly secular society. The Catechumen Crucifix also makes a powerful sympathy gift for some people, as a reminder that we can find strength in our own suffering by looking to the suffering of Christ.

Yesterday I received the “Behold the Man” Crucifix. It is beautiful, touching, and invitation to pray and be present to the Suffering Christ and to his Body and world who continue to suffer. It is a blessing to and for me this Lent.
