The Name of God – The Name of Christ Jesus
In the Scriptures, names have power. There, a vital connection is made between the name and the person identified with the name. A name somehow represents, in fact, the essential nature of the person named. Nowhere is this more evident than in the very name of God. The tetragrammaton (יהוה – YHWH – Yahweh) – God’s name in Hebrew – is too sacred to even be pronounced out loud. Rather, the title Adonai (My Lord) is substituted whenever God is mentioned or addressed (go to History/Story tab). The name of Jesus with his title “Christ” are now exalted (Philippians 2:6-11):
Christ Jesus, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death-even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the Father.
