Measuring 3.4 inches high and 3 inches wide, the Fleur-de-Lis on Jerusalem Cross has an eyelet at the top to allow for easy hanging on a wall or for use as a pectoral cross. This pendant was conceived, cast, and finished by hand in an art studio in France. This is a most lovely gift for that very special person in your life!
The Fleur-de-Lis – Symbol of Mary and the Holy Trinity
Until about 1300, the fleur-de-Lis was found in depictions of Jesus, but gradually then began to take on Marian overtones, especially as “lily among thorns” in Song of Songs 2:2 became understood as referring to Mary. Since the lily already symbolized purity and chastity, the fleur-de-lis was increasingly associated as an iconographic attribute of the Virgin Mary. The three petals of the fleur-de-lis symbolize the Holy Trinity. The band holding the three petals together symbolizes Mary, for the Trinity is not intelligible without Mary – she who bore the Son, the second Person of the Trinity.
