Jesus will calm the Stormy Seas in Our Own Lives
This is a depiction of one of Jesus’ most memorable boat rides on the Sea of Galilee with his fishermen-disciples. All who have ever been in a boat on a stormy sea know how frightening it can be. But Jesus is right there in midst of his followers, in our midst, in the midst of our stormy seas. Jesus will not let us drown in our troubles. The stormy seas in our lives can be discouraging, unsettling, frightening and even seem overwhelming. Jesus will come to our aid if we will only name our stormy seas and express our doubts, our fears, our discouragement. We look to him, as the disciples do in this plaque, and we trust. This wall cross is a wonderful heirloom gift, and a constant reminder of the One who is really in charge when our boat is lashed by the stormy seas of life.
Luke 8:22-25 (cf. Matthew 8:25-27, Mark 4:35-41)
One day about that time, as Jesus and his disciples were out in a boat, he suggested that they cross to the other side of the lake. On the way across he lay down for a nap, and while he was sleeping the wind began to rise. A fierce storm developed that threatened to swamp them, and they were in real danger. They rushed over and woke him up. “Master, Master, we are sinking!” they screamed. So he spoke to the storm: “Quiet down,” he said, and the wind and waves subsided and all was calm! Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?” And they were filled with awe and fear of him and said to one another, “Who is this man, that even the winds and waves obey him?”
