Mary – “Queen” of Heaven?
According to Catholic teaching, after her death Mary was taken up or “assumed” into Heaven. If Mary was taken up into Heaven as the Virgin Mother of Jesus, the Mother of God, the Theotokos, she must surely hold a very high place in Heaven indeed! And, in fact, Catholics began to address her as the one crowned “Queen of the Angels” and “Queen of Heaven.” Saint John Damascene asserted: When she became Mother of the Creator, she truly became Queen of every creature.
