The Crucifix of Choice for Pope Saint John Paul II
The Papal Crucifix is immediately recognizable to any Catholic as the crucifix used by many of the most recent popes: Saint Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis. It has typically rested atop the pastoral staff used by the Popes and was designed by Lello Scorzelli . Commissioned by Pope Paul VI, it was first used at the closing of the Second Vatican Council on December 8, 1965. The Creator Mundi Altar Papal Crucifix is a replica of this crucifix, and is available in different sizes as a wall cross. This crucifix is made of solid bronze in Europe, using old-world techniques. The level of craftsmanship shown in this crucifix ensures that it will become a treasured heirloom for that special pastor or priest in your life and the life of your parish!
The small and medium-sized wall crucifixes are ideal for home wall crosses: both add a beautiful air of reverence and tradition to your home or classroom. The large size can also be used at home, but is additionally suited for chapel or liturgical use. Finally, we even designed a custom version of the crucifix for a parish in Delaware that was nearly five feet tall! (For this custom papal crucifix, click here.) Clearly, this crucifix speaks strongly to many Catholics, and it is with great pride that we offer it.
A Crucifix Symbol of Strength, Unity, Diversity, and Tradition
This crucifix has been the choice of so many popes for a reason: its simple yet evocative design depicts important aspects of the crucifixion. A truly beautiful reminder of the meaning of the crucifixion.
This crucifix is a wonderful gift for the home as well for Ordinations, Jubilees, profession of vows, and wedding anniversaries. Symbol of faith, this wall cross is an approximate replica of the crucifix (1921-1997) which rests on the top of the pastoral staff used by Pope Paul VI, Pope John Paul I, Pope John Paul II, (briefly by) Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. The Scorzelli crucifix was the model for the crucifix on the rosaries Pope Benedict XVI gave to his guests.
