To see these wall crucifixes, click here. The Papal Altar Crucifix is 7.87 inches long. This crucifix does not lie flat on the altar. The crossbeam (patibulum) is curved slightly downwards to create a slight curvature. The long upright beam (stirpes) is angled slight upward to make it more visible to the celebrant.

The Papal Crucifix is immediately recognizable to any Catholic as the crucifix used by many of the most recent popes: Saint Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis. It has typically rested atop the pastoral staff used by the Popes and was designed by Lello Scorzelli . Commissioned by Pope Paul VI, it was first used at the closing of the Second Vatican Council on December 8, 1965. The Creator Mundi Altar Papal Crucifix is a replica of this crucifix, and is available in different sizes as a wall cross. This crucifix is made of solid bronze in Europe, using old-world techniques.
