Product Description
This wooden cross is a happy depiction for all who love St. Francis and our earth.
The Peace Prayer, commonly attributed to St. Francis of Assisi, is a famous prayer which cannot be traced back further than 1912 (see Christian Renoux, La prière pour la paix attribuée à saint François, une énigme à résoudre, Paris, Editions franciscaines, Paris, 2001). This prayer is known in the United States since 1936 when Cardinal Francis Spellman and Senator Hawkes distributed millions of copies of the prayer during and just after World War II. This prayer embodies the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi’s simplicity and poverty:
Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred,
Let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, Joy.
O Divine Master grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled<br>As to console;
To be understood,as to understand;
To be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
