St. Christopher (Greek: Χριστόφορος, Christóforos, literally, “Christ-bearer”) was martyred during the reign of the Roman Emperor Dacian (or Decius) around 250-300 a.d. For more on the original “Christ-Bearer”, go to the History/Story tab. He is now the patron saint of wayfarers, travelers, drivers, motorists, and transportation workers. This cloisonné enamel on bronze plaque is a wonderful gift for a first communion, confirmation, birthday, and on the feast day of Saint Christopher, July 25th.

Christopher Carried Him Who Carried the Weight of the World
This cloisonné enamel on bronze plaque depicts Saint Christopher gripping his staff and fording a deep river while carrying the Christ Child on his shoulder. Although not shown on this plaque, the Christ Child is often depicted holding what looks like a ball but which is, in fact, the whole world! The Christ Child tells Saint Christopher: “You carried on your shoulders not only the whole world but Him who created it. I am Christ your king, whom you are serving by your service.” Saint Christopher has been widely popular for a long time. There are in England more wall paintings of St. Christopher than of any other saint with the exception of the Virgin Mary!
