Saint Lawrence – Martyr and Deacon
Saint Lawrence is the patron saint of chefs and cooks, according to tradition, because when requested to hand over the Church’s wealth to the Roman authorities, he distributed it all as alms to the poor and then presented the sick and the poor as the Church’s true treasures. His punishment was slow grilling and roasting to death on a gridiron (depicted on the bottom right of the plaque). He is even alleged to have exclaimed while being tortured, “Turn me over! I’m done on this side!” This plaque is a superb gift to honor his feast day on August 10th. A truly unique gift for first communion, confirmation, birthdays, and all your favorite cooks and chefs!
