Product Description
This is our deeply moving Saint Mary Magdalene at the Cross Plaque. Saint Mary Magdalene is, after Mary the Mother of Jesus, the second most important woman in the New Testament. She is rightly called the “Apostle to the Apostles” since she is the only person in all four Gospels to be the first to realize and proclaim that Jesus had risen from the dead! This bronze plaque is indeed a wonderful gift for a birthday, baptism, first commuion, or confirmation, and for the feast day of Mary Magdalene on July 22nd.
A Solid Bronze Wall Plaque
This solid bronze large plaque measures 7.9 inches high and 6.3 inches wide. It is designed to hang easily on any wall in study, home, or office. This solid bronze plaque was conceived and executed in Germany by a master bronze-smith. This is an especially fitting gift for that special “Magdalene” or “Madeleine” in your life!
“The Apostle to the Apostles” = “Woman with the Alabaster Jar”?
Saint Mary Magdalene was commonly mistaken for the “woman with the alabaster jar” – an unnamed prostitute who anointed Jesus’ feet with her tears and dried them with her hair (Luke 7:36-50 – go the History/Story tab). This tradition of conflating the “Apostle to the Apostles” with an unnamed “woman of ill repute” (a case of mistaken identity if there ever was one!) is fortunately not the central motif of this depiction of Saint Mary Magdalene. Here she is depicted grieving over the crucified and now dead Jesus just before he is taken down from the cross. Her grief will be transformed into gladness on Easter morning when she becomes the “Apostle to the Apostles”!
