Product Description
This is our inspiring Saint Thomas More plaque. Saint Thomas More (1478-1535) was an English lawyer, social philosopher (author of Utopia), statesman, noted Renaissance humanist, Chancellor of England, and martyr of the schism that separated the Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church. In 2000, Saint Pope John Paul II declared More the “heavenly Patron of Statesmen and Politicians.” He is also the patron saint of lawyers. This is then an excellent gift for the feast day of St. Thomas More on June 22nd, as well as a meaningful gift for a first communion, confirmation, graduation from law school or anyone who has devoted their life to justice.

Saint Thomas More – A “Man for All Seasons”
St. Thomas More was Chancellor of England when he opposed King Henry VIII’s efforts to divorce Catherine of Aragon and remarry. Saint Thomas refused to swear the Oath of Supremacy which declared the King of England to be the head of the Church in England. Saint Thomas eventually resigned as Chancellor and was imprisoned in the Tower of London and ultimately beheaded for his refusal to violate his conscience in order to accommodate the king’s desire to insure a male successor to the throne. Saint Thomas More was immortalized for the general public in the film A Man for all Seasons which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1966.
