Product Description
Easter Season (Eastertide) is the period of 50 days, spanning from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday. Celebrated as a single joyful feast, Easter season is also called the “great Lord’s Day”. Each Sunday of the season is treated as a Sunday of Easter.
The Easter Season Card celebrates this highest and most holy season in the Christian calendar. This card consists of seven elements: sun, grapes, Paschal Candle, the church building, the fish (ichthys), the chalice and host, and the waters (of baptism). The Easter season is a time of ongoing and deepening initiation into the Paschal Mystery of Christ. The Easter Vigil begins the season with the lighting of the Paschal Candle which will burning during every celebration of the Eucharist until the end of the season. The blazing sun is a reminder both of the average weather of this season (sunny and warm) as well as a play on the words “sun” and “son” (of God). The fish (ichthys) reinforces the theme of the Paschal Mystery. Fish in Greek, ichthys, as anagram is in fact shorthand for the Christian faith for this season: “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.” The waters of the one-time sacrament of baptism begin the believer’s journey of faith as a full member of the Body of Christ, the Church (symbolized by the church building). The grapes, chalice and host symbolize the Eucharist — the repeated sacrament of ever-deepening initiation into the Mystery of Faith.
