The “Circle of Life” in the New Creation
Everyone is familiar with the wonderful Disney movie The Lion King and its memorable theme song The Circle of Life. This song was the movie’s attempt to help children understand why the world – a seemingly cruel place divided up into predator and prey – is actually this way for a good reason: Every creature has its place in the great “circle of life”, and every creature, through its suffering and death, helps keep this great “circle of life” in motion. For Christians, however, this natural circle of life – the product of countless eons of evolution – is not the final word on Creation. In the life, death, and Resurrection of Christ, this “circle of life” is now giving way to a New Creation in which there will longer be predator and prey: The wolf will live with the Lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together (Isaiah 11:6). In this New Creation, Christ will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away (Revelation 21:4). The Circle of Life Monument Statue depicts this joyous reality. The “Circle of Life” of predator and prey is broken forever in Christ, symbolized in this monument statue by the Cross blazing forth and breaking out of the circle of life and death.
