This Cruz de Pasqual Cross is an exquisite example of detailed enamel hand work and is created by a Spanish artist. Measuring 10 x 7.5 inches, this cross chronicles momentous events in the Bible. This rare wall cross is a perfect gift for a new bishop from his congregation and/or celebrates an extraordinary person or event in a memorable, spiritual and very generous way. This cross is a reproduction of the called “Cruz de Pasqual” (Spanish for “cross of Pasqual” – VI C.). Vatican Library (Rome). It is gold plated with lots of detailing and enamel work and features a hook on the back to hang it securely on a wall.
Stories from the Bible Are Visible in Art
This exquisite reproduction of the Cruz de Pasqual cross tell some of the stories from the Bible. Individual panels depicting the stories are then put together creating the cross. The hand created enameled scenes are from top, then left to right, then top to bottom:
Annunciation, Visitation, Flight into Egypt, Nativity of Jesus, Epiphany, Presentation in the Temple and Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist.
The inscription around the cross is in Latin. The translation is:
Receive, I beg you, my sovereign, queen of the world, this symbol of the cross which is offered by Pasqual, bishop (of Rome).
