The Madonna – “Queen” of Heaven?
After her death Mary was, according to Catholic teaching, taken up (“assumed”) into Heaven. If Mary was taken up into Heaven as the Virgin Mother of Jesus and Mother of God, she must surely hold a most honored place in Heaven indeed! Over time, Catholics began to address her as she who is the Mother of God and therefore “Queen of the Angels” and “Queen of Heaven.” Saint John Damascene wrote of her: When she became Mother of the Creator, she truly became Queen of every creature.
