Our Lady of the Fiat Statue – A Breathtakingly Exquisite Labor of Love, Faith, and Hope
Composed of dolomite stone and resin, the Our Lady of the Fiat Statue stands 29.25 inches high and 8 inches wide. A community of cloistered sisters conceived, fashioned and hand-finished this statue in the atelier of their monastery in France. As true “contemplatives in action”, each of the members of the community prayerfully fulfills an assigned task to help bring to completion each and every piece. How, where, and by whom the Our Lady of the Fiat is made is convincing proof that it is ”culturally authentic” as well as a breathtakingly exquisite labor of love, faith and hope.
Mary’s Fiat – Mary’s “Yes” – “May it be done to me as you have said”
Mary said “Yes!”. Mary said “Fiat!”: “May it be done to me as you have said!” Mary could have said “No” or “Maybe” or “Not yet”, but Mary said “Fiat!” As a human being endowed with true human freedom, Mary could have said “No”. God did not disregard her freedom just as God does not disregard ours. Even if Mary’s “immaculate conception” means that she was not tainted by “original sin” and was therefore naturally predisposed to obey God’s will joyfully and freely, this does not mean that her “Yes” was automatically preordained and so a foregone conclusion. Authentic freedom means the freedom to say “Yes” or “maybe” or even “no” – even when “Yes” is, as it was for Mary, the most natural inclination. Mary said “Yes!” when she could just as easily have said “No”. Mary shows us through her “Yes!” – through her “Fiat!” – what authentic human freedom is really all about.
