Jonah and the “Whale”
On this solid bronze plaque Jonah is depicted as being swallowed by a “great fish” or “whale” after having done his utmost to avoid God’s mission for him. While the Book of Jonah is a classic of humorous prophetic writing, it also has a very simple and serious underlying message: Get right with God and you will save yourself a whole lot of trouble in life! Jesus referred to Jonah’s three-day sojourn in the belly of the “whale” as a prefiguring of his own three days in the tomb before his resurrection from the dead (Matthew 12:39-41).
