Product Description
This is our beautiful Saint Margaret of Scotland Plaque. St. Margaret (c.1045-1093) was Queen of Scotland. The name “Margaret” is Greek (μαργαρίτης) for “pearl.” She was in fact sometimes called the “Pearl of Scotland.” She was known and greatly esteemed for her piety, religious fervor, and works of charity. This plaque will make a most fitting gift for a birthday, first communion, confirmation, Christmas (“stocking stuffer”!), and the feast day of St. Margaret on June 10th.

Saint Margaret of Scotland – The “Just Ruler”
Saint Margaret of Scotland civilized her husband King Malcolm by reading to him stories from the Bible (top left of plaque). She undertook religious reforms and strove to bring the worship and practices of the Church in Scotland into conformity with those of Rome. She was esteemed as an exemplar of the “just ruler”and influenced her husband and children to be the same. She attended to the needs of orphans and the poor every day before she ate, and, in imitation of Christ, washed the feet of the poor (bottom left of the plaque). In her personal life, Saint Margaret was as devout as she was in her public duties. She spent much of her time in prayer, devotional reading, and ecclesiastical embroidery (top and bottom right of plaque). She attended church services at midnight every night. She invited the Benedictine order to establish a monastery at Dunfermline in Fife in 1072. She established a ferry across the Firth of Forth for pilgrims travelling to and from Dunfermline Abbey – hence the names of the towns of South Queensferry and North Queensferry.
