A Solid Bronze Plaque in Three Sizes
This solid bronze plaque is available in two sizes: Small (p157k – 2 x 1.6 inches) and Large (p436g – 7.9 x 6.3 inches). This was designed and executed by a master bronzesmith in Germany. This plaque has a notch on the back to ensure easy hanging on any wall at home – perhaps next to the child’s bed, or in some special niche where the child can be reminded of this comforting truth: the guardian angel has been sent by God to stand guard against the dangers of the day and the terrors of the night.
The Guardian Angels Guards and Protects the Child
The Guardian Angel is depicted holding a flowering staff in his left hand while holding his right hand over a small child playing with a ball (the ball being the perfect symbol of childhood innocence) and sheltering the child with his wings. The staff flowering with almond blossoms is traditionally associated with Saint Joseph of Nazareth because of a wordplay on the Hebrew words שָׁקֵד shaked (“almond”) and שָׁקַד shakad (“watch over”). Just as St. Joseph watched over the baby Jesus as he grew up (Matthew 1:18-25, 2:13-23; Luke 2:1-7, 21-52), so too does every child’s guardian angel watch over the child (Matthew 18:10: See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven).

I purchased the Guardian Angel of Counsel bronze plaque for a baptism gift. It’s lovely, well made, heavy and a wonderful keepsake through the years and to one day be passed down.
