Mary, The Fleur-de-Lis, and the Holy Trinity
On this plaque, Mary’s halo is surmounted by a crown with five fleur-de-Lis (lily flower). A fleur-de-Lis stands to her left and to her right. Until circa 1300, the fleur-de-Lis was seen only in depictions of Jesus. With the passage of time, however, the fleur-de-Lis became associated exclusively just with Mary. For Mary was seen as the “lily among thorns” of Song of Songs 2:2. Moreover, since the lily was held up as a symbol of purity and chastity, the fleur-de-lis was a frequently occurring iconographic attribute of the Virgin Mary. The three Persons of the Holy Trinity are symbolized by the three petals of the fleur-de-lis. The band binding the three petals together, however, was Mary by necessity – for the Trinity simply cannot be comprehended without Mary, the Theotokos, the tender young mother of Jesus, the incarnate Word, the Second Person of the Trinity.

I consider myself lucky to be able to buy a piece like this one for my home. It is a masterpiece in bronze. Jesus was born to save us from sin.. Mary holds the infant Jesus and a cross scepter as our Holy reminder. Peace!
