The cloistered sisters of a monastery in France conceived, molded and finished this statue by hand in their atelier. Each nun, a true contemplative in action, prayerfully completes a specified task necessary for the completion of each and every statue. The Virgin Mary, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit
Saint Maximilian Kolbe, OFM, martyr of Auschwitz (1894-1941), devoted much of his life to developing a theology of Mary in which he argues for “the hidden relationship between the Spirit of God and the Virgin of Nazareth.” He believed that all grace comes to us ultimately from God the Father, through Jesus Christ, his Son, and is then distributed by the Holy Spirit. Saint Maximilian asserts that when the Holy Spirit distributes God’s grace, the Spirit does so in and through Mary—not because the Spirit has to do this, but rather precisely because, in God’s plan of salvation, God wills that the Spirit do this. Saint Maximilian believes that God wills this for a reason: Since Jesus, the Source of all grace, came through Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit, it is fitting that all grace continue to come through Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit.
