Description
The Our Lady of l’Aude Statue (Notre Dame de l’Aude) depicts Mary enthroned as “Queen of Heaven” with her son Jesus seated on her lap. The Child Jesus here holds in his left hand the globus cruciger (the “cross-bearing orb”), the symbol of his dominion over the world, and raises his right hand in blessing. His three raised fingers signify the indivisible unity of the Three Persons of the Holy Trinity, while his two fingers folded down signify he has a divine nature and a human nature, inseparable but unmixed. This statue will be a most welcome and extraordinary addition to that special chapel which you hold so dear!
The Our Lady of l’Aude Statue – A Culturally Authentic Labor of Love, Faith, and Hope
The Our Lady of l’Aude Statue stands 41.2 inches tall and is made from a composite of dolomite stone and resin. A community of French cloistered nuns conceive, create, and hand-finish every piece in their monastery’s atelier. Each nun is a “contemplative in action” who prayerfully undertakes an assigned task that contributes to the completion of each and every statue. How, where, and by whom the Our Lady of l’Aude Statue is made shows that this statuette is a culturally authentic labor of love, faith and hope!
Mary – Mother of God – Queen of Heaven
Mary is depicted here enthroned as “Queen of Heaven.” But how can Mary be the queen of anything, much less the Queen of Heaven? Mary is the mother of Jesus the Christ (Messiah). And since Jesus is the Word made flesh, the Second Person of the Trinity incarnate, Mary is – as the Council of Ephesus declared in 431 a.d. – the very Mother of God, the Theotokos. Catholics began to address the Mother of God as the one crowned “Queen of the Angels” and “Queen of Heaven.” Saint John Damascene argues that Mary is not only Queen of Heaven, she is Queen of Creation: When she became Mother of the Creator, she truly became Queen of every creature.
