What Is All Souls’ Day?
The season of Allhallowtide is the triduum (3-day) remembrance beginning with All Saints’ (All Hallows’) Eve on October 31st (Halloween), All Saints’ Day on November 1st, and concluding on November 2nd with All Souls’ Day. This is a time to remember the dead, including martyrs, saints, and all the faithful departed.
Each year on November 2nd, we remember, celebrate, and pray for all of our family members, friends, and other faithful departed. Coming after the excitement and frivolity of Halloween’s costumes and candy, and after the hopeful inner reflection and veneration of All Saints’ Day, All Souls’ Day — a day of reflection and remembrance of everyone whom we have loved and lost — can be easily overlooked.
