Product Description
The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery – Jesus Carries the Cross plaque depicts Jesus – after being viciously flogged within an inch of his life – now being forced to carry the heavy crossbeam which will be the instrument of his further suffering and certain death. The Jesus Carries the Cross plaque is a most fitting gift – as part of the complete set of plaques of the Mysteries of the Rosary – for a school, convent, monastery, hospital, or parish.
The Jesus Carries the Cross Plaque – A Touching Labor of Love, Hope and Faith
The Jesus Carries the Cross plaque is 8.25 inches high, 6.75 inches wide and 1 inch thick. A community of cloistered religious sisters created, fashioned from dolomite stone and resin, and finished by hand this piece in their monastery in France. The sisters each prayerfully undertake an assigned task needed for the completion of each plaque. How, where, and by whom the Jesus Carries the Cross Plaque is made is testament to the fact that this plaque is quite ”culturally authentic” – and a touching labor of love, faith and hope!
Jesus Carries the Cross – John 19:16-17
So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). Jesus most likely carried only the patibulum, the crossbeam of his cross which would then be hung upon the stipes, the upright beam, at Golgotha, the place of his imminent execution. Carrying “only” the crossbeam meant that Jesus, now suffering from massive blood loss and shock, was struggling to shoulder a very heavy beam of wood – perhaps weighing 90 lbs. or more – and to carry it by foot for a long distance. This explains why the soldiers escorting Jesus compelled Simon of Cyrene to carry Jesus’ cross for him to Golgotha (Matthew 27:32, Mark 15:21, Luke 23:26). Without Simon’s help, Jesus probably would have died en route before ever being crucified.
