Product Description
This is our stunning St. Mary Magdalene at the Cross Plaque. Saint Mary Magdalene is, after Mary (the mother of Jesus), the second most important woman in the New Testament. She is rightly named the “Apostle to the Apostles”, as she is the one person in all four Gospels who was the first to know and to announce the resurrection of Jesus from the dead (Matthew 28:1-10; Mark 16:1-9); Luke 24:1-12; John 20:1-18). July 22nd is her feast day. This bronze plaque is indeed a wonderful gift for her feast day, a birthday, or a confirmation.
A Bronze Wall Plaque
Measuring 3.75 inches high and 2.5 inches wide, this small bronze wall plaque can be hung with ease on any wall at home or in the office. This solid bronze plaque was conceived and executed in Germany by a master bronze-smith. This is an especially appropriate gift for that special “Magdalene” (or Madeleine) in your life!
Saint Mary Magdalene = Woman with the Alabaster Jar?
Saint Mary Magdalene was later confused with the “woman with the alabaster jar,” an anonymous “fallen woman” who anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair (Luke 7:36-50). (For more on this case of mistaken identity – this unfortunate history of conflating an unnamed prostitute with the “Apostle to the Apostles” – go to the History/Story tab.) This plaque depicts Mary Magdalene as Jesus’ friend to the very bitter end (Matthew 27:55-56; Mark 15:40; Luke 23:49; John 19:25) and then, after his death, embracing his feet as he is about to be taken down from the cross. This plaque is an excellent gift for her feast day (July 22nd), a first communion, a birthday, and especially a confirmation.
