“Crucified” and “Messiah” do not compute!
A “Crucified Messiah” is, simply put, a ridiculous oxymoron. The two disciples on their way to Emmaus were of this conviction. They shared with their mysterious companion that “Jesus of Nazareth was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel” (Luke 24:19-24). ”We had hoped…” The two disciples had hoped for something much more than a humiliated, crucified and killed prophet. Jesus was supposed to have been the Messiah who would vanquish the Romans, free Israel and usher in a new age of peace and justice. The Risen Jesus responds by revealing himself to them in the breaking of the bread. He shows that he is much more than a mere military “messiah”—he is now the Lord of life, the Conqueror of death, the Crucified and Risen Messiah who makes all things new.

To me the colors make a difference when selecting this crucifix. The Red Cross is for Good Friday veneration. The blue cross is for a Divine Mercy recollection on Divine Mercy Sunday. The Red Cross is my favorite as it is my veneration remembrance. This is excellently done and it some how touches my heart more than most crucifixes. This French group makes exceptional crosses. I actually have both crosses red and blue.
