A Wood and Dolomite Crucifix from France
Measuring 40 inches high and 3 inches wide, the Christ Rhénan Crucifix can be hung with ease on any wall in study, home, office, hospital room, classroom, chapel or church. This wall crucifix (wood cross with dolomite stone corpus) was conceived and created in the monastery workshop of a community of religious sisters in France. This crucifix will be a truly extraordinary addition to any space, chapel or church!
Crucified and Messiah?
A “Crucified Messiah” is a breath-taking oxymoron if there ever was one! The two disciples on their way to Emmaus could not ever have conceived of a “Crucified Messiah.” For they narrated to their mysterious companion on the way that “Jesus of Nazareth was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel” (Luke 24:19-24). ”We had hoped…” Clearly, “crucified” and “Messiah” could not possible be uttered in the same sentence for them! They were expecting a “superhero”, Schwarzenegger-style, military Messiah who would totally annihilate the Roman occupying force, liberate Israel, and usher in for the Jewish people an age of justice, prosperity, and peace. But Jesus was no Schwarzenegger, no mere military “messiah.” Jesus destroyed death and restored life, eternal life. Jesus, the Crucified and Risen Messiah, is now the Way and the Life – the One who makes all things new!
