Jesus – A Crucified Messiah? Or Just a Failed Prophet?
A “Crucified Messiah” is a glaring contradiction in terms. How can the Messiah be humiliated, crucified, and killed? The two disciples on their way to Emmaus certainly thought this way. For they explained to their nameless travel companion that “Jesus of Nazareth was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel” (Luke 24:19-24). ”We had hoped…” The two disciples had hoped for a “superhero” Messiah, not a miserably failed (and now dead) prophet. Jesus could not possibly be the Messiah! The Messiah smashes the yoke of Roman oppression, frees Israel, and inaugurates the Messianic age for the Jewish people! In response, the Risen Jesus reveals to them in the breaking of the bread that he is the “crucified Messiah” vindicated in his resurrection from the dead, vastly more powerful than any mere military “messiah”: By rising from the dead, Jesus has destroyed death and restored life, eternal life. He is the Lord of life who now makes all things new.

Review dlarsen16 – :
These French Crosses are unique as with this one I get an iconic read for it. Jesus is on the cross but in both a crucified and resurrected position. He bravely suffered but he won a victory for us over sin. The blue on the cross represents a Divine sacrificial mercy of Christ for the forgiveness of sin. The back of the cross is a gather us in style cross.
